Test of Competence 2021 for Nursing Associates is now live
Today (31 January) the NMC is delighted to launch the new ToC 2021 for nursing associates.
This test is specific to nursing associates and measures candidates against our 2018 Standards of proficiency for nursing associates.
Nursing associate candidates who have taken either the Computer-Based Test (CBT) or Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) before today, will continue with the existing legacy ToC. They will have until August 2022 or when their CBT expires (if applicable), whichever date comes sooner, to take the second part of the test. Anyone starting the test of competence from today will take the new ToC 2021.
Full details about the new ToC 2021 for nursing associates are available on our website. This includes materials to help candidates prepare for their test, and information on how to book their CBT and OSCE with our current providers (Oxford Brookes University, the University of Northampton and Ulster University).
Final legacy Test of Competence test dates for nurses, midwives and nursing associates
When we launched the new ToC 2021 in August last year for nurses and midwives we said that candidates who had taken either part of the legacy test would have a year to take the second part of the legacy test. Six months after the introduction of the ToC 2021, we have seen half of these legacy test candidates complete their registration. That’s 10,000 newly registered overseas-trained professionals!
We want to make sure that everyone knows about key dates ahead of closing the legacy tests for nurses, midwives and nursing associates:
• All legacy tests, whether the CBT or OSCE, must be taken by 31 July 2022. We will share last booking dates shortly.
• From 1 August 2022 only resits for the legacy test will be available.
• From 1 August 2022, all candidates taking their ToC for the first time will sit the new test.
Our new OSCE test centres are almost ready
We announced in October two new OSCE delivery partners, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Northumbria University to join our current test centres.
The building of their new test centres and recruitment of their teams are progressing really well. Everything is looking good and we are looking forward to opening the doors.
I’d like to thank the teams working on this for all their commitment and work so far. We are aiming to share further information about their opening plans and how candidates can book their tests from March 2022.
